Love handles are not muscles! ‘Love handles’ is the affectionate ‘pet name’ given to excessive fat around the sides of the abdomen. It sounds complimentary but … you should want to know how to get rid of love handles. Love handles are the visible sign around the stomach and waist area of excess body fat overall. They are basically due to an unhealthy or high-calorie diet and lack of exercise. Research has shown that the desire to get rid of love handles is common in nearly one-third of the adult American population (approximately 60 million). Because of our mostly sedentary lifestyle in the West along with many people eating more than is needed for health, the number of overweight and obese people has continued to grow over the last few decades. This trend is not predicted to slow down. This is quite a risk to society as being overweight increases the risk of severe chronic illnesses, most notably: heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Overall, obesity and excess weight are associated with reduced life span. Nearly six percent of all the total health care costs in the USA (more than fifty billion dollars) is attributable to health problems from people being overweight. In times gone by when food was hard to find, love-handles were a sign of wealth and success. But now, the ideal body shape is one that suggests action and suppleness. So, in addition to the above health reasons, most people want to get rid of their love handles as they are not perceived to be sexy or aesthetic any more in our modern-day culture. So how do I get rid of love handles? This fat can seem stubborn and difficult to get rid of. In fact getting rid of it is simple (though it may need some will-power). Getting rid of love-handles is achievable by changing one’s eating habits and consequently slimming the waist and stomach area along with excess fat in the rest of the body. There really is only one way: Diet! Because love handles and belly fat are nothing more than excessive eating habits, so if you want to get rid of them, then you are just going to have to eat less -- or at least, less fattening food. There are basically two kinds of diets: diets that you design yourself or diets that have been designed by someone else, like the Atkins Diet or the Fit for Life diet. There are also dietary aids like green tea or the one that is presently taking the world by storm, Acai Burn. Look for dietary supplements that are based on natural nutrition. Green tea helps hydrate you and contains a lot of antioxidants, for example. The Acai Burn diet supplement is made from the acai berry, a fruit found throughout South America. Acai-berry-based diets have a certain advantage over many other forms of dietary supplements because of the abundance of useful nutrients found naturally in the acai berry. Exercise plays a great part in weight loss. You don’t have to do anything as specialised or intense as hurdling or plyometric training. Just increase your metabolic rate with regular exercise such as brisk walking, jogging, etc. When you are in better shape, you will burn more calories even while you’re sitting watching TV! Add to that the extra boost given by products like green tea or Acai Burn and you will see your love-handles melting away. |
