| A company has developed an electronic cigarette (e-cigarette for short). It has all the features of regular cigarette minus the tar and the smell. It lights up at the tip just like an ordinary cigarette. Ash trays are not needed, but it still has the nicotine taste as well. A rechargeable battery allows one cigarette to be charged multiple times. This is basically an electronic version of the real thing. When these were e-cigarettes were invented, they probably were intended to have a target audience of those who already smoked. Reason being, they focus on all the main points which would appeal to those who already smoke. For example the money that would be saved on cigarettes in general, having a rechargeable battery allows for these cigarettes to last longer than an average pack. Money would also be saved on ash trays and lighters. These e-cigarettes are also not included in the smoking ban that now exists. Second hand smoke is not an issue. So those who smoke can now smoke freely in all areas without upsetting others. Kids will be drawn to this product because it reminds them of a toy. Even if this wasn’t the company’s intention when creating this product, kids will look at them as being fun. I have heard many kids refer to these e-cigarettes as “cool” and “neat”. They seem to be somewhat amazed by how it lights up and produces false smoke. Anytime something has been upgraded to a better version, kids tend to like it. The e-cigarette is like the new and improved edition. They still contain the nicotine levels in these electronic cigarettes, even though the tar is removed; nicotine is never a safe thing to consume into your body. No type of cigarette is good for children. They all have nicotine in them which is very addictive. Starting to smoke at a younger age will eventually cause them to be addicted and dependent on cigarettes. This will lead to complications and maybe cancer when they reach adulthood. Advertising companies should change how they sell and who they target when selling cigarettes in general. Smoking cigarettes has never been a cool thing; there are too many side effects for it to be cool. Electronic cigarettes and regular cigarettes should not reach the hands of children. It can transform their life completely. With good parenting and awareness of how harmful cigarettes can, they will not be a threat to our children. |
