| Liberia’s darling club Invincible Eleven (IE) continued her lackluster performance to the start of the season when she went down 2-1 to Football Club Azziz Kara (FC AK) Sunday, May 3, 2009 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in Monrovia in continuation of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) 2009 premiership. Lincoln Gartei opened the score line for the sun shine yellow boys in the first stanza, but FC AK’s Sam Johnson canceled the lead as the first stanza ended 1-1. Back from recess, both sides mounted pressure in an attempt to outdo each other, but Johnson broke the deadlock in the dying minute of the match as he completed a brace to see FC AK collect the maximum three points and move closer to the top of the tree. The results saw IE played seven matches with one win, four draws and two losses. After the match, FC AK Captain and veteran Liberian defender Varmah Kpoto was glade and said “we played a great game and I thing we deserved the three points. Our tactics worked for good against such great team like IE and we hope to continue in our quest for the LFA premiership crown,” he noted. In other matches played, United Soccer Ambassador Football Club (USA FC) also continued a poor run to the LFA premiership with a 2-1 defeat sustained to Monrovia Club Breweries at the D. Tweh pitch in new Kru Town. On Saturday, May 2, 2009, Gedi and Sons and M.B. Angel settled to a 0-0 draw at the Unification Town pitch in Margibi County, while Barrack Young Controller (BYC) increased her chances to capturing the crown with a 1-0 victory over UMC Roots in Kakata, Margibi County. The youthful LFA top flight club is the surprise of the season with no defeat so far in the campaign. BYC, LPRC Oilers and Mighty Barrolle are the league’s front runners with no defeat in the chase for the LFA 2009 premiership so far. BYC will have mountains to climb this week with Barrolle and LPRC Oilers on Wednesday and Saturday respectively. Pundits believe if the youthful LFA premier outfit can survive against the two giants, it means she is on course for the championship. The team has intensified training ahead of the two rigid fixtures, while Mighty Barrolle is doing the same at the Coleman hill for strength against the kids who are noted for their physical game. |
